Why we have chosen stainless steel
When you think of jewellery, you typically think of gold or silver. But there's a reason why more jewellery brands today are making pieces in stainless steel — especially for the active target group. Here's why.
It doesn't rust
Unlike ordinary silver, which tarnishes over time, and gold-plated jewellery, which loses its colour, stainless steel retains its shine for many years. This means you can wear your jewellery daily — even in water, sweat, and saltwater — without it becoming dull.
It's skin-friendly
Stainless steel doesn't react with your skin, and because it contains so little nickel, most people with sensitive skin can wear it without problems.
It lasts longer
A good quality stainless steel chain typically lasts much longer than an ordinary gold-plated or sterling silver chain — without you having to maintain it. It's better for your wallet and better for the planet.
It's value-conscious luxury
You get a piece of jewellery that looks expensive but costs a fraction. That's the intention behind MAREA: jewellery that looks like it costs twice as much — without compromising on quality.
What does "316L" mean?
When we say stainless steel, we specifically mean 316L surgical stainless steel — the same quality used for medical implants. It offers the highest degree of corrosion resistance and skin-friendliness.
